Finally, the time has come to let the framing begin! When I say that in my mind, it sounds like, “Release the hounds!” because that is the way it feels. Things which have been plodding along for the last couple of months seem to have burst into action. We will be having a professional framing crew come to raise the second floor starting the week of Valentine’s Day, so there has been a flurry of activity to get all the first floor framing done in time to be ready for them.
What needs to be done?
Well, the answer to that question is a bit longer than we might like. As mentioned here a few times, our previous enclosed front and back porches had to be ripped out completely. This of course means they need to be rebuilt completely. Also, we are enlarging the kitchen which includes moving the exterior wall out two feet. As if that weren’t enough, we also need to completely rip out and reframe half of the south wall of the house. We will be moving windows on this wall which would mean patching and making new holes in a wall that has already seen quite a bit of work. Thankfully, we have had plenty of help from friends and family for the last couple weekends to work on all this.
Last weekend, we laid the joists and the subfloors. Mother Nature then decided we didn’t have enough on our plates and let loose with quite a bit of rain. Check our Instagram for a look at what we needed to do to keep things (at least a little bit) protected.
Since the floors were in, this weekend was dedicated to putting up the walls.
We started here….
Made a stop around here….
And finally ended up here.
The work is still in progress even as this post goes up. We’ll share more updates soon. Thanks for following us along this journey. 🙂
