Once again, here we are. Inspection prep time. This inspection is considered the “dry-in in progress,” so it includes peel and stick on the roof, Tyvek wrap and windows. We had a bit of a slow down thanks to some travel and some accidents (oops!), but we are finally ready. Here’s quick rundown of what we had to get done this time around.
This has been done for weeks since we wanted to get the house waterproofed as soon as possible. We hired this job out….which was totally worth it! You can read more about it and see some pictures here.
About a month ago, I wrote on this blog that we were going to hire someone to complete the Tyvek wrap, and I meant it at the time. But…….the incredibly tight hold we have on our wallets meant that we changed our minds on this one. We got a quote for $1600 and just couldn’t see our way clear to paying that much.
It was not the most pleasant job, but thanks to some amazing help and a bunch of ladders, we were able to get it done.
Even though the Tyvek was done, we still had to address the lower portion of the wall sheathing, which needs to be pressure treated according to code requirements. What we had looked like this.
All this open space had to to be covered in order to completely close in the crawlspace and create a strong backing for the Hardie siding that we will be installing. First, we had to fill the block on the stem wall to give it strength. Once that was done, it took some careful measuring and quite a few tap-cons to attach to the concrete block, but we finally ended up with something like this.
Once that was done, you guessed it. More Tyvek!
The good news is we should actually be finished with this portion of the job.
Well, if you read this, you’ll know that the windows gave us a bit of a challenge. Thankfully, we have prevailed! It took many hours. To give you some perspective, the instructions for how to tape the windows are 15 pages long! (I actually made it through most of this podcast while taping windows. It’s worth a listen if you haven’t heard it yet.) And I don’t want to think about how many layers of tape each window has – or how much that tape cost – but we made it. Let’s just say, these windows better never leak!
We’re going to schedule the inspection for this week. Keep your fingers crossed for success. Thanks!
