Yes, that’s right – more demo! When you are changing so much, the demo can seem to go on forever. Now that the interior is pretty much stripped clean, it is time to focus on the exterior of the house.
The first thing to go was the front porch.
The back porch received the same treatment, and it’s gone now too.
Originally, we intended to keep the floor structure of the original enclosed front and back porches. Unfortunately, we uncovered some rot (and some questionable construction) and decided to take them down completely and start fresh. We saved as many floor joists as possible to reuse in the rebuild.
We have also stripped the aluminum siding. In the process, we uncovered one of the original details of the house.
We plan to recreate these brackets to bring back some of the character. In fact, we plan to do the same on the garage…and we have been planning to for the last two years. This blog isn’t called Bordering on Finished for nothing!
For now, we are on to prepping to pour the new footers and get the foundation ready so we can actually start putting things together instead of tearing them apart!
